Bad Guest meets unprepared talk show host

i3mages.jpgCarrrie Prejean left the Larry King set after she felt he was asking inappropriate questions(he wasn’t).  She must have some issues that are carrying into other parts of her life as she turned a misunderstanding into a big deal and ruined the show.  On the other hand Larry’s people should have had an understanding with Ms. Prejean prior to the show as to what was going to be covered, so the Larry King’s people blew it as well.  So Larry tries to switch questions and move to call ins but this does not satisfy Ms. Prejean who has freaked out by this time.  Bad TV all around.  So what you do to prevent this or handle it once it occurred.  Here is a CNN clip of the melt down:

Your audience wants to watch your interviews and then have something interesting to say.

Valerie Geller of Geller Media International recently wrote this:

“GIVE THEM TALKABLE TOPICS

Listeners love to hear things on air, then turn off the radio and have ideas and interesting new things to say to other people in their lives. If you can do their “show prep” for them for their day, listeners love it!”

Ms. Geller hits one of the key points in conducting a knockout broadcast interview, people want to walk about from your interview and have interesting things to think about and talk about.  Do this and you are there.

Here is a story about an ET interview with Jon Gosselin in which he walks off the set in spite of having agreed to talk about the subject.  Given the audience of ET, this must have been good TV.

The 32-year-old allegedly became frustrated when the pair were asked about the status of their relationship.

“I have to let her go in order for her to be happy. If she thinks I’ve been emotionally abusing her, I cannot live with that guilt,” he explained.

“Everything’s easier said than done,” responded Glassman, who alleged that Gosselin “cried” when she tried to leave.

She added: “Even when I’m sitting in this interview and I hear you talk, saying that you’re gonna be more honest and loyal, I roll my eyes like the rest of the world. I wanna see it!”

ET Online has alleged that the couple then had a disagreement over whether they should be discussing their private relationship in public.

“I’m getting frustrated, because it’s uncomfortable,” said Gosselin. “This whole thing’s uncomfortable. I don’t like it. I mean, you’re telling me out there that you love me and you want to be with me…”

Glassman is then quoted as saying that their relationship is “not healthy” before broaching the subject of his children, prompting Gosselin to pull the plug on the
